Diamond Certification

Every diamond we set is independently graded, and the report you receive depends on the stone you choose.

  • Natural diamonds carry a GIA (Gemological Institute of America) report — the world's most widely recognised diamond grading laboratory.
  • Lab-grown diamonds carry an IGI (International Gemological Institute) report, the leading laboratory for laboratory-grown stones.
  • Wedding bands come with a Simon Alexander certificate, recording the metal, the finish and any diamonds set into the band.

A laboratory report is an independent record of a stone's characteristics — carat weight, colour, clarity and cut. It is not a valuation, and an in-house grade is never a substitute for it.

GIA and IGI graded diamonds are laser-inscribed on the girdle with their report number, so you can confirm that the diamond in your hand matches the report in your file.

When you buy a certified diamond through Simon Alexander, we show you the laser inscription under magnification in our King William Street boutique — once while the diamond is loose, and again after it has been set — so you can see for yourself that the stone and the report match.
