Engagement Rings Adelaide

Engagement rings in Adelaide, designed with you and made to order

Simon Alexander is an independent manufacturing jeweller on King William Street in the Adelaide CBD. Every engagement ring we sell is one of our own designs, drawn in the boutique and made to order around the diamond you choose — natural with a GIA report, or lab-grown with an IGI report. You choose the design, the shape, the carat and the metal; we make the ring, Australian made, set and hand-finished at our Adelaide bench, and hand it to you in four to six weeks with its certificate and a current insurance valuation.

Nothing here is lifted from a tray and nothing is priced by a head office. The diamantaire who draws your ring is the one who helps you choose the stone, and the one who will tell you when the cheaper stone is the better stone.

Start with the shape

Most people know the shape before they know anything else, so that is where our collections begin. Round brilliant gives the most light and will never date. Oval is the most-asked-for shape in our boutique right now: it reads larger than a round of the same carat and lengthens the finger. Cushion softens the outline; emerald and princess cuts are cleaner and more architectural; pear is the romantic one. Every named design is drawn in each shape, so you can start with the shape and let the setting follow.

Natural or lab-grown, certified either way

We set both and we do not sell one against the other. A natural diamond carries a GIA report, the reference standard, and holds a place in many people's minds that no price can replace. A lab-grown diamond is diamond — the same carbon, the same hardness, the same fire — grown rather than mined, carries an IGI report, and gives a larger stone for the same money. The lab-grown stones we offer meet a published standard: D to G colour, VS2 to VVS1 clarity, excellent cut, IGI certified. Few jewellers state a floor at all. Our lab-grown engagement rings are the same drawings as their natural twins, and you can see both side by side on your hand in the boutique.

What an engagement ring costs in Adelaide

The prices on our site are real and they are published so you can plan before you speak to anyone. Each is the finished ring — setting, metal and the feature diamond at the stated carat.

  • Natural diamond rings from about $2,950 for a solitaire with a 0.50ct GIA-certified round brilliant in 9ct gold; oval designs from $3,400.
  • Lab-grown diamond rings from under $2,000 for a solitaire with a 1.00ct IGI-certified diamond in 9ct yellow gold, and from about $4,800 at 2.00ct in 18ct white gold.
  • Most of the engagement rings we make land between $5,000 and $15,000. Where a ring sits in that range is almost entirely the diamond: carat, cut, and natural or lab-grown. For reference, Easy Weddings' 2026 survey puts the average Australian engagement ring at about $6,800.
  • Every price is live: the price of each design, at every carat and in every metal, is shown on its page.

Tell us the number you are comfortable with and we will design the best ring that number will make. There are no hidden fees, and you approve the price before anything is made.

How it works

  • A conversation first. Walk in, or book a private viewing so the room is yours. Bring photographs, a ring you both admire, a rough finger size, a budget — or nothing but the question.
  • Choose the diamond. You see stones side by side under proper light with the loupe in your hand, each with its report. Simon recommends five stones for every design.
  • Approve the design. Simon draws the ring and you see it from several angles before anything is made. Change it until it is right.
  • Made to order. Four to six weeks from approval. For Christmas, order or approve your design by Tuesday 1 December.

If none of the named designs is your ring, we design from a blank page: see custom engagement rings in Adelaide.

Why an Adelaide manufacturing jeweller

Simon Dimasi has designed fine engagement rings in Adelaide since 2001. He is a diamantaire and the author of A Diamond Truth, an honest guide to choosing a diamond. Since 2020 Simon Alexander has been the official maker of the SANFL premiership rings. Every ring here is drawn and overseen by him, and every ring comes back to the same room for its complimentary annual clean and check, insurance valuation, first resize and, for white gold, first rhodium refresh.

Engagement rings in Adelaide: your questions

How much does an engagement ring cost in Adelaide?

At Simon Alexander, natural diamond engagement rings start from about $2,950 for a solitaire with a 0.50ct GIA-certified round brilliant in 9ct gold, and lab-grown rings from under $2,000 with a 1.00ct IGI-certified diamond in 9ct yellow gold. Most rings we make fall between $5,000 and $15,000, with the diamond the largest part of the price. Every price is the finished ring, diamond included, and each design's price for every carat and metal is shown on its page.

Where is the best place to buy an engagement ring in Adelaide?

Buy from the people who design and make the ring, and who will show you the diamond under the loupe with its report before it is set. An independent manufacturing jeweller designs with you, chooses the stone with you and makes the ring to that drawing; a chain sells rings designed elsewhere. Simon Alexander has done this on King William Street since 2001, and our clients rate us 4.9 on Google.

Should I choose a natural or a lab-grown diamond?

Both are diamond. Natural stones carry a GIA report and hold a place in many people's minds that no price can replace; lab-grown stones carry an IGI report and give a larger stone for the same money. We set both, show them side by side under the loupe, and give you a straight opinion rather than a push either way.

How long does it take to make an engagement ring?

Allow four to six weeks from the day you approve the design, and usually six to eight weeks from your first visit. If you are working to a proposal date, tell us at the first conversation and we will plan backwards from it.

Which diamond shape is most popular?

Round brilliant remains the classic, and oval is now the most-asked-for shape in our boutique: it reads larger than a round of the same carat and lengthens the finger. Cushion, emerald, pear and princess each have their own character, and every named design is drawn in each shape.

What if I do not know the ring size?

Bring a ring your partner already wears on that finger, or a photo of it beside a coin for scale, and we will get close. If the fit is not perfect after the proposal, the first resize is complimentary, so the size is never a reason to delay the question.

Do you offer finance?

Zip is available in our Adelaide boutique for eligible customers, subject to Zip's approval and terms. Ask when you visit.

What comes with the ring?

The diamond's grading report (GIA for natural, IGI for lab-grown), a current insurance valuation from us, and lifetime care at our boutique: a complimentary annual clean and check, your first resize and, for white gold, your first rhodium refresh.

How it works

From first idea to finished ring

1

We talk

Bring an idea, a photo, or nothing at all. We listen, and we'll be honest about what's right for you — no obligation, ever.

2

We design it

Sketches and 3D renders so you see your ring before anything is made. You approve the design first — nothing is made until you're sure.

3

You approve, we make it

A 50% deposit confirms your order and begins the making. The balance is settled when your ring is ready — about four to six weeks.

Custom quotes — given in our boutique or online — hold for 14 days. As each bespoke piece is made to order in your chosen gold or platinum, the final price is confirmed when you place your order, and we'll always flag any significant movement in metal prices first. Ready-made pieces are sold at the price shown.
